I was
born and raised in Calgary,
Alberta, Canada.
In 1997 I earned a BSc in Psychology from the University
of Calgary and two years later a
Masters of Human Kinetics from the University
of Windsor.
I then attended
the University of Houston in Texas,
completing my Doctor of Education with a specialisation in Sport Psychology in
1993. I moved to the United
Kingdom and began working at De Montfort
University in 1994.
Currently, I am a Principal Lecturer at the University of Bedfordshire. My interests include golf, wine and collecting antique corkscrews and pocket knives.
I
currently teach psychology of sport and exercise at the undergraduate level and
psychology of physical activity on the MSc Physical Activity and Wellbeing
programme.
In the past, I taught modules in group dynamics, motor behaviour,
social psychology and introductory statistics.
In addition to my teaching
duties, I advise undergraduate dissertation students and currently form a part
of the supervisory team for three MPhil/PhD students.
As part of my role as Psychology team leader, I oversee the development and delivery of the psychology curriculum within the School of Physical Education and Sport Sciences.
My research focuses on group dynamics in sport teams. In particular, my research centres on team cohesion, coach and player leadership and collective efficacy. Recently, I joined with colleagues at the University of Bedfordshire to investigate the antecedents and motivational consequences of perfectionism in sport and exercise participants.
I am a regular reviewer for several sport and exercise psychology/science journals.
