Rod Smith, Senior Lecturer

Rod Smith

Rod is a CMS, DMS, MBA, and DBA tutor, specialising in management skills, organisational behaviour and managing change.

He also acts as a module leader for DBA Change Agent Practice,  MSc HRM Managing and Leading People, Managing for Results, CMI Executive Diploma Project Management and Performance Management and he is an MBA Consultancy elective.

Rod has a degree in Chemistry. Later he has attained a Postgraduate Diploma in Industrial Administration and studied MBA at Open University. He has also finished an MSc degree in Computer Science at the University of Hertfordshire.

Commercial Experience

Rod has a very wide range of commercial experience. Since 1991 up until now he is working for The Consultancy Company as a Consultant specialising in people, organisations and change. Rod's consulting expertise areas expand to employee relations, performance management, rewards, learning and development, organisational development, change management and psychometrics.

Previously Rod has worked for Belling and Co as a Head of Personnel, as a Divisional Personnel Manager for Thorn Lighting, Senior Employee Relatives Officer for Schweppes Limited and as a Job Analyst for Roche Products UK.

Overall in his commercial work experience Rod has completed many various assignments.

He has designed, implemented, and handed over a management development programme for a large private mental hospital and created a HR strategy for a large housing association based in London.

Apart from that, Rod has created an intranet website on team–working for a major company in the global energy industry, and has evaluated the performance appraisal system in a county police force and established the competences for a major overhaul of the rank structure.

Rod has provided the HR expertise in a project team redesigning and implementing a new performance management system in a major government agency.
