Research Interests
Hotel valuation, investment and finance: include automated valuation models, price indices and property cycles. Sector interest includes hotels, tourism & commercial property, holiday homes and mixed-use developments. Also, applications in relation to investment promotion for tourist destinations form part of the research interest.

- Appraisal of a development site in Cultural Village in Dubai
- Valuation of Multiple sites in Marrakech and Rabat for investment bank in Kuwait – purpose was acquisition
- Market Research on the Marina Industry in Istria, Croatia
- Valuation of a hotel and marina in Istria, Croatia
- Valuation of Development Land (2 million m2) in Cairo for investment bank in the Arabian Gulf– purpose was acquisition
- Valuation of Multiple Development Sites and Advisory in Cairo for a UK investment manager
- Valuation of (Mixed-Use) Development Land in Makkah (120,000 m2) for a developer – purpose was attracting equity investors. The use included one 5-star and one 4-star hotels, serviced apartments and shopping centres.
- Valuation of multiple sites in Tripoli, Libya – purpose was attracting equity investors. That included 2 hotel sites where the property was to be managed by international brands, 1 office building site and 1 hospital site.
- Market Research on Overseas Property in Egypt – the emphasis was on the British buyers
- Valuation of Development Land in Marsa Alam, Egypt. The plot was a beach front, 1 million m2. The developer intended to build 3 hotels plus residential units.
- Valuation of Cairo Festival City (500 million m2) commercial land – for the purpose of private placement
- Cairo Festival City (2.9 million m2) by Majid Al Futtaim: Highest and best use, development programming and valuation of site – the report was utilised by Morgan Stanley to prepare information memorandum for the project and promote the investment.
- Casa Allegria (2.4 million m2) by SODIC: Masterplan review and strategic Advice – the report delineates the real estate context and sector performance in Cairo and Giza, research project’s market considerations, review the space programme for the project and produce recommendations that will maximise the marketability and valuation of the project, and advice on marketability factors for inclusion in financial feasibility of the project. The second phase included a Business Plan – including marketing and sales plan, human resources and financials.
- Uptown Cairo (4.0 million m2) by Emaar: Masterplan Review and Strategic Advice – the report analysed project-specific market considerations, projected demand for project, recommended the concept and space programme for the project and warranted amenities and services, advised on the potential of leisure, entertainment and commercial space, and advised on implementation and sales issues.
- Talaat Mostafa Group Portfolio: Market research in support of the valuation of the portfolio of Assets owned by Taalat Mostafa Group with a view to raising equity finance via the private placement and / or the initial public offering (IPO) in Egypt. The portfolio included 3 Four Seasons Hotels, 1 independent hotel, and development and vacant land over 50 million m2.

- Business plan for a tourism development project in Sharm El Sheikh for a large international hotel and resort group.

- Naeem Holding Investment Bank: Real estate environmental scanning and investment strategy in Riyadh and Cairo
- TRI Hospitality: market analysis of hospitality and real estate sector in Cairo and Alexandria
- The American University in Cairo (AUC): Valuation of real estate portfolio
- The Egyptian Council of Ministers: Advisory on Disposition Strategy of 200 Government Buildings in Downtown Cairo
- The Egyptian Ministry of Housing: Market Reports and Construction of Cairo Real Estate Index
- Valuation of 11,000 acres of vacant land in North Africa for an investment bank in the Arabian Gulf
External Roles
- Played key roles in the industry as Chief Executive of Assetreal Limited (tourism and property consultants with offices in London and Glasgow offering professional services including valuation, best use studies, market and feasibility studies, development strategy, turnaround & restructuring, investment sales and acquisition advisory) and as Regional Director of Coldwell Banker Middle East and Greater Africa (international real estate firm with over 4,000 office worldwide offering brokerage and professional services to the real estate sectors)
- Served on the Editorial Board of ANATOLIA: An International Journal of Tourism and Hospitality Research
- Held memberships with the Urban Land Institute Europe (ULI-Europe), British Association of the Hospitality Accountants (BAHA), the Research Committee of the Council of Hospitality Management Education (CHME) (UK), the Association of University Teachers (AUT), the International Management Development Association (IMDA) (USA)
- Contributed to many conferences as chair, keynote speaker and member of the scientific committee including the First Tourism Congress of Mediterranean Countries in April 2002 in Antalya, Turkey by Akdeniz University, the Economic Impact of Tourism: Applications to Saudi Arabia in June 2001 in Abha, Saudi Arabia by Prince Sultan College for Tourism and Hotel Sciences and the Challenged Tourism Conference in December 1997 in Girne, Northern Cyprus by Girne American University
