The University of Bedfordshire was established in 2006, when the University of Luton acquired a new campus (formerly part of De Montfort University) in the neighbouring town of Bedford.
Luton and Bedford are located in the heart of south east England within easy travelling distance of central London and close to London Luton Airport. We are an internationally-recognised public University with about 17,000 students and 1,000 staff.
We have a large number of European students – from every part of the European Union. We are one of the UK’s top universities for access and diversity. That means we are a caring university – we look after our students, whatever their backgrounds or nationalities. For more information on student support services, please see:
The University of Bedfordshire runs a personal tutor system – so that all new students have a personal tutor whom they can meet for academic and welfare advice. We also have an extensive e-learning platform – Bedfordshire Resources for Education Online (BREO) – where students can find course information, lecture notes and learning materials for each of their classes.
The University came top for teaching quality among new British universities according to The Sunday Times newspaper in 2003 and 2004. The UK Government chose the University of Luton for a Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning in 2005, with an award of 5 million Euros extra funding.
The University’s impressive modern facilities include, in our Luton campus, a new 9 million Euro Media Arts Centre (which features professional TV and radio studios and theatre) and a new 11.5 million Euro Learning Resources Centre (which includes an extensive library and computer facilities).
Our Bedford campus features an impressive library and computing centre, housed in a stunning new building. In addition to all this, we currently plan to invest a further 65 million Euros in the University. For more information on our Learning Resources Centre, please see:
University accommodation is available for all new students. For more information on accommodation, please see:
We also offer of a financial support package for all British and European Union students. For more information on financial support, please see:
The University also has a careers and employment office which can help you find part-time work to fit around your studies. On average, students can expect a part-time job to involve up to 20 hours work per week, paid at approximately £6 per hour.
We have a very impressive record of graduate employment, because we offer an academic and professional education designed to support your future career. For more information on our Centre for Personal & Career Development, please see:
We also have a wide range of social, sports, musical and arts facilities, clubs and events – including a popular students’ bar and night club! For more information on the University of Bedfordshire Student Union, please see:
