How to apply for a loan, grant and University bursary

The loan* and bursary application form you need to complete will vary according to your status as follows:

UK Undergraduate - Full-time, new PN1
UK Undergraduate - Full-time, returning PR1
UK Undergraduate - Part-time PTG1
EU Undergraduate - Full-time, new EU11N
EU Undergraduate - Full-time, returning EUPR1A
EU Undergraduate - Part-time EUPTG1
UK/EU PGCE PN1
  1. go to www.direct.gov.uk
  2. type the name of the form in the "Search this site" box in the top right-hand corner
  3. click on the search result link for your form
  4. Some forms will be completed online with others as a PDF download 

*NOTE: Please ensure that you apply for your tuition fee loan prior to registration with the University as the information regarding the payment of your fees will be required before the start of your course.

The Student Loans Company (SLC) will provide you with an ART number (attendance record number) and this information should be brought with you when you attend registration. In the meantime, i.e. during your studies, the SLC will pay your fees for you.  

Self Funding Bursary Scheme

Graduates who cannot, or choose not to, take out a tuition fee loan have special Bursary arrangements.

You should only complete this application form if you are:

  • A ‘Home’ or ‘EU student’ (See Notes a and b on form).
  • Starting a full-time degree course and paying tuition fees of £3,375 per year.
  • Not entitled to or have not applied for a Government Student Loan for Tuition Fees.
