The aim of the Academy is to establish itself as a centre of excellence in supporting and developing the health, social work and social care workforce.

We will do this by recruiting and developing students and staff and providing excellent research informed education and CPD so that we can contribute to improved outcomes for people’s health, care and wellbeing in Bedfordshire.

With an emphasis on: We are going to do this by:
Recruitment Being a key player in the provision of health, social care and social work education in the region
Knowledge Exchange Providing research informed knowledge exchange activities
Quality Supporting staff and students so they want to stay in Bedfordshire
People Empowering our colleagues to provide training and support to deliver excellent education and care
Working Together Understanding our region, building on our successes and focusing on improvement
Local opportunity Develop and strengthen opportunities for local communities to live, study, learn and work locally

The Academy has huge potential to improve recruitment, professional development of staff and in turn to provide the best possible services to the citizens of Bedfordshire so I am delighted to support this endeavour.


I am excited to be involved in this new partnership across Bedfordshire with our academic and health and social care partners.


Our Vision

Strategic Objective 1 - Improve recruitment and retention

  • Reach out to the local community to enable more people to consider a career in health, social work or social care
  • Ensure there is an agile response to concerns raised by students and they are addressed quickly


  • Satisfaction rates from students on all courses are at least 85%

  • A workforce that better represents the local population

  • Clear career pathways for students and staff at all levels
Strategic Objective 2: Influence and Impact

• Make links with workforce development leads and research their requirements for CPD

• Seek opportunities for collaborative provision of taught programmes, and higher degree apprenticeships


  • A thriving Academy with key stakeholders actively engaged from across the sector

  • A wide range of apprenticeships and direct entry routes in health, social work and social care
Strategic Objective 3:Skills Knowledge and social transformation

• Use evidence from research and best practice to develop high quality CPD courses

• Provide a highly skilled workforce to meet local demands for health and social care in Bedfordshire
