Advice for international students applying for accommodation

All students should follow the same procedure when applying for University accommodation.

  • When you have received a formal offer letter, you can apply for accommodation
  • You should apply online for accommodation, making sure to fill the form out accurately and complete it as soon as possible if you are intending to stay in University accommodation
  • If you have specific requirements, such as single-sex accommodation, please clearly indicate this on your application form
  • You may be required to send a booking fee with your application form
  • Due to the high demand for University accommodation, we regret that we are not able to offer you temporary accommodation while you find suitable accommodation in the private sector
  • If you require University accommodation, you must apply well in advance of the date you expect to arrive. We strongly advise you to apply as soon as possible after receiving a formal offer of a place at the University. When we have a completed application AND your booking fee, we will confirm your accommodation allocation in writing. Please be aware that processing your application takes time, particularly during busy periods. However, if you have submitted your application and paid your fee and you have not received written confirmation of your University accommodation within one month, please contact us:

Without written confirmation from Accommodation Services, you cannot be certain you have a room reserved. Please do not assume accommodation has been arranged if you do not have written confirmation, as this may lead to complications when you arrive in the UK.

Students arriving in November, January or April

We will always do our best to ensure that we meet your needs for accommodation. However, after the main student intake in September, we do have limited rooms available and we regret that this means we cannot guarantee that we will be able to meet specific preferences.

However, you can still apply for accommodation at any time throughout the year and we also have a dedicated Accommodation Services team who, alongside the International Student Support team, will be able to assist you if you decide to rent accommodation privately or stay with a host family
