This is only our guidance and advice on how to complete the Points Based System Appendix 8 (July 2011) Tier 4 General Student Self-Assessment. Additionally, you will also need to complete Application Form - Points Based System Form (VAF9 October 2011) Personal Details. These forms are available from the UKBA website. Guidance on completing the Personal Details form is also available at this link.
You must seek further advice locally in the country in which you are applying for the visa. The University of Bedfordshire will not be held liable for any information you submit to UKBA or for any UKBA decisions. We recommend that you also follow the advice given in the UKBA Tier 4 Policy Guidance. For further information about maintenance and what documents you will need to submit you may also refer to the FAQs in this section.
Please also note that, from time to time, the UKBA will update these visa forms without any notice. Therefore, it is your responsibility to ensure that you complete the correct, most recent version of the forms - otherwise your visa could be refused.
Students commencing their studies this September or attending one of our pre-sessional English can now submit their visa applications. Below you will find detailed information on the visa application process, and we have also prepared some Frequently Asked Questions.
There are two very important things you must consider:
If you are NOT a national of one of the following countries or have NOT completed an academic qualification at least equivalent to a UK Bachelors degree from one of the following countries listed below, then in all cases you should put a cross on "Your Sponsor is a Higher Education Institution, and has made its own assessment of your English language ability - Go to Part 6".
Antigua and Barbuda; Australia; The Bahamas; Barbados; Belize; Canada; Dominica; Grenada; Guyana; Jamaica; New Zealand; St Kitts and Nevis; St Lucia; St Vincent and the Grenadines; Trinidad and Tobago; United States of America; UK
If you have taken an IELTS or other UKBA approved test then you should still put a cross on "Your Sponsor is a Higher Education Institution, and has made its own assessment of your English language ability - Go to Part 6" BUT you do not need to put the details of the test and do not need to submit your test certificate with your visa application. This is because you are applying to study at a Higher Education Institution (HEI) and therefore are not required to submit the English test. The "English Language Test" option is for students who are NOT studying at an HEI. This part of the visa application should therefore look like the image on the right.
The English Language Test you have taken was for academic entry to the University so that we (as an HEI) could assess your English ability. Through your successful results in your test and excellent achievement you have proved to us (as an HEI) that you have the ability to succeed in your studies in the UK.
This is a very important part of the visa application form and mistakes on this section as well as incorrect documents submitted lead to high numbers of visa refusals. You must ensure that you have bank statements showing you or your parents have maintained the required amount of money in your account consistently for 28 days in your bank account. The last date on your statement must not be more than one month old at the time you submit your application. Bank statements should include your name or your parent’s name, the account number, the bank name and logo, and the money available.
