International
I'm Michelle James from Jamaica and I'm studying the International Business and Management Masters at the University of Bedfordshire. I chose this course because when I checked the website the university seemed to be student friendly and I knew that I wanted to do International Business Management and that this would be the best choice for me.
The main reasons why I came to this university is firstly the cost, the location and the fact that they are student friendly. I did my first degree seven years ago and to just jump back into the system I wanted a university where I could really feel comfortable. I was fortunate enough to get a £1,000 scholarship and that really assisted me with my tuition fees which I really appreciate from the university.
Being here has been a great experience, Luton is a very multi-cultural community I was told that there are over 100 nationalities! In my class we have at least 26 different nationalities which is a great experience to speak to people in different languages and about the different cultures. We had to do a module which was International Communication in Business, in that course we had to study different cultures and it was interesting because somethings are more acceptable in some cultures than others.
The lecturers have been great, they do one to one sessions with students so if you do have questions or queries they can help you. We had a lot of group assignments over the first semester which was quite interesting because you get to work with all these different people. By working with them you get to know more about their culture and understand their way of life. I've made many friends and I'm very happy that I came here because I've made friends with people from Russia, China, India, Pakistan, so many countries!
The learning environment is great, you feel very comfortable when you're in your lectures because the surroundings are clean and you have access to so many materials. At the end of the day if you get an assignment you can't say that you didn't get a chance to complete it because the source wasn't there! There are journals, electronic books, there's really no excuse as everything is there for you.
I really like the way in which with the BREO system you can go 24/7 to collect your lecture notes, make an appointment and just generally improve my computer skills.
Overall my experience here has been great, I don't have a huge nightlife but my friends do! Ultimately if I get a good job I'd like to stay here, if not I'll head back to my own country and the experience i have gained here will be used back home.
