Wang Xiao Jia is a multi-award winning television presenter for Beijing News on the Beijing TV station. Her show, which has the highest audience figures across the station, goes out daily to more than 200m people at 6.30pm and 9pm.
A graduate from the Beijing Broadcast Institute in 1993, Xiao Jia has been working at the TV Station as a news presenter ever since. It is a highly demanding job as Beijing News has a high audience rating and focuses on various political, business, cultural and sporting issues.
She wanted to learn how the media industry operates overseas and improve her English language skills, so Xiao Jia took the opportunity to study an MA Media Management at the University of Bedfordshire. The MA Media Management programme is designed by the University to train experienced journalists and senior media managers who will be working in Beijing for the preparation of 2008 Olympic Games.
Xiao Jia praised the University’s learning resources and its style of teaching. She said: ‘The Media Management course is very practical and working with the latest equipment at Bedfordshire will give me the edge over other colleagues when I go back to Beijing. I’ve also improved my English language and learned new methods of research, which is very important when you work in the media industry’.

Working as a TV presenter is Xiao Jia’s job and also her passion. ‘I am constantly watching BBC, CNN and ITV news. I like analysing and comparing different channels, presenters and the news content’, she added.
When asked about her future plans, Xiao Jia knows exactly what she is going to do. ‘I will continue working for the Beijing TV Station and will report on the Olympic Games, which is a unique moment in every journalist’s career”, she concluded.
