Exchange Student

Emi Nakao

Emi Nakao is an exchange student from Japan, who is studying various subjects including Business, Psychology, Marketing and Tourism.

Emi Nakao has big plans – she would like to start her own business after she graduates.

The 21-year-old  from Nara in Japan, would like to set up a school in her home country for overseas students to learn the language and to find out more about Japan’s culture and history.

To help improve her English, Emi decided to take a year out from the Kansai Gaidai University in Osaka to study a selection of subjects at Luton.

It was Luton’s good reputation for teaching, the local airport and the town’s proximity to London, that attracted her to the town.

She said: “When I arrived, I wasn’t sure what to expect but staff at the Student Centre were extremely helpful and showed us exactly what we needed to do.

Also, I came to Luton with two friends, so we supported one another and this helped us to settle quickly.

We are all very happy to be so close to London so we can visit lots of interesting places. Having an airport so close by  is also very good for travelling.”

Emi is particularly enjoying her business and marketing subjects, but she admits, learning psychology and tourism for the first time is more challenging.

When she is not studying, Emi likes to travel and has already visited Oxford and London.

She was very impressed by the architecture in both cities, describing them as ‘beautiful and colourful’.

Emi enjoys exploring the local area, but she also wants to go further afield and travel around Europe.

“Having the airport on my doorstep is fantastic and I plan to visit Barcelona first.

I’m currently taking Spanish lessons, which are provided free of charge by the University. This will really help me on my travels,” she added.
