Nina Gonzalez, from Mexico City, has always wanted to go to University. Her father supported her to allow her to pursue an undergraduate course in Mexico and strongly believes that education is the best gift he can give to his oldest daughter.
A turning point in Nina’s life was when she visited the British Universities Fair in Mexico City and met the University representative in Mexico. Having a wide choice of British Universities, Nina decided that the University of Bedfordshire would be a perfect place to do her dream course - an MSc in Human Resource Management.
Having studied in Spain as a Socrates Erasmus student, Nina fell in love with the European lifestyle and came to England full of expectations. She undertook a one semester English foundation course before moving onto a Master's. It was the beginning of what turned to be a memorable life experience.
Although the first week at the University proved to be challenging as she struggled to understand the British accent, all the teachers were very helpful and supportive and very soon Nina was on the right track.
Staying in one of the University accommodation halls is a great opportunity to meet like-minded students from China, Belgium, Germany, Canada, Italy to mention but a few nationalities. Nina is pleased with the variety of social activities in Luton: "I was lost at the beginning but things changed after I went to the International party organised by the University".
In her spare time, Nina enjoys watching movies, eating BBQ food, going to the gym and meeting friends. Luton being only half an hour by train from central London enables Nina to visit the bustling city whenever she wants. Sightseeing, visiting museums and theatres is always a pleasure for our student from Mexico who calls herself a ‘city girl’.
Nina believes that having a Master's degree from a British University will strengthen her chances of getting a job in Mexico: a combined knowledge of teaching and human resource management will lead her to coaching and training teachers in her native country. Having achieved a lot for a 25 year old, Nina believes there is a ‘Big Angel’ behind her success who will continue to guide her in the future.
