MSc Psychological Approaches to Health and Management

Carolina Munoz

As a psychology graduate from Los Andes University, Bogota, in her native Colombia, Carolina Munoz always wanted to study abroad.

So after hearing about the University of Bedfordshire’s Psychological Approaches to Health Management Master’s she researched the course and spoke with University staff at a higher education recruitment fair in Bogota.

She saw representatives from 20 UK universities, but was particularly impressed with those from Bedfordshire because of their helpful attitude and knowledge about the course.

She said: “I couldn’t believe how straightforward the application process was. The staff from the International Office were really helpful and were on-hand to provide as much support as I needed - they even helped me apply for a scholarship.”

Carolina said she likes the close relationship she has developed with her classmates and the fact that she is sharing her University accommodation with a fellow Colombian student.

She also attends an Academic English and study skills class held at the University, and really enjoys the sessions, which have helped her settle into life in the UK.

She also found the study skills workshops organised by the Learning Resource Centre really useful when preparing for exams.

The on-line virtual learning environment, which the University offers, has allowed her to access lecture notes and seminar material at any time of the day or night, so that when the library facilities and computer rooms close at 2am, she can continue studying.

In her spare time, Carolina listens to Colombian radio via the Internet, which is provided in University halls, and she also goes to the gym and enjoys travelling. She recently went to Silverstone in Northamptonshire and is a big fan of Formula 1.

Carolina has also signed up to be a member of the Student Community Exchange - a University-run group which helps the local community. She has already painted one of the local churches, joined the Safety Squad and collected money for the British Red Cross. She also won the ‘Outstanding Volunteer Award’ at the annual Student Community Exchange awards ceremony.

Carolina would like to return to Colombia, after finishing her Master’s, to teach psychology and to work in health management at a local hospital.
