High-flying Sarath Pandula, from Hyderabad in India, gained a first-class honours degree at the University of Madras before coming to the University of Bedfordshire. He chose to study at the Luton campus after receiving recommendations from friends who were already at the University.
After graduating, the 26-year-old worked for two years in computer programming in Hyderabad which he enjoyed immensely. He then decided to further his studies and do a Master’s in Computer and Internet Technologies at Bedfordshire.
He said: “Working in internet development motivated me to further my studies. I enjoy working with the internet and the course I chose at the University of Bedfordshire allowed me to develop my knowledge in this area.
“The course allowed me to develop the knowledge I had learnt in the workplace. The course was certainly challenging, but it has given me a whole new perspective on the subject.”
Sarath, who graduated in April, has been working for international oil company, Exxon Mobil, in Northampton as a Systems Administrator. He has been able to build his career in the UK, thanks to the new visa regulations, which allow graduates to stay and work in the UK for a further 12 months after completing their studies.
He has always wanted to study in the UK since he was a child, as a UK education is held in high esteem in India. Sarath also liked the fact that you can complete a Master’s in one year in the UK, as opposed to the two years in the United States and India.
Sarath is a keen cricketer and played for the University team in Madras. He continues to play cricket for a local team in Northampton.
Describing Luton he said: “Luton is a forward-thinking town, and is very student-focused with a great social scene. The diverse mix of residents and students mean, is always plenty going on!
“The University is very career-focused and the subject areas provide theoretical and practical skills which are directly transferable to the workplace. My Master’s helped me secure my job, and I would recommend the University of Bedfordshire to other people thinking of studying in the UK.”
