International students are permitted to work part-time (up to 20 hours per week) during term time, and full-time during University vacations.

Please note that working times must be in accordance with the terms of your visa and in no circumstances should working impinge on your attendance or study.

There are so many benefits of taking an internship:

  • It may be industry relevant to your course, which will greatly enhance your understanding and application of your studies
  • Additional experience will supplement your theoretical knowledge of the world of business
  • It helps you to build the attractive CV that you will need to apply for jobs after graduation
  • You will develop essential employability skills, such as time management, research and communication, that are highly valued by prospective employers
  • A variety of experience means you have more evidence to draw upon during interviews
  • It enables you test a career path to see if you are suited to and enjoy that kind of profession
  • An internship is a great way to network and build essential contacts within the business world

I enjoyed learning about new cultures on my internship. What really impressed me was how co-operative everyone was. I fulfilled every task I was given and as a result of undertaking this internship I have now been offered a job with BAM Nuttall when I graduate. I am happy and feel proud that I will be working with such a reputable company.

Usha Bhatta, International office intern

I was given a lot of duties, and learnt to deal with enquiries. Working with people from all corners of the world was a once in a life-time experience for me. Communication is knowledge, and knowledge is power, and I will be able to use what I have learnt back home in Nepal. With my internship I have learnt how to uplift my knowledge and broaden my vision.
