Top Tips on Safety
- Keep your passport in a safe place. Keep a photocopy of your passport and keep a record of the passport number. If you lose your passport report it to the police immediately. If possible, we recommend you scan a copy of your passport and email it to yourself.
- Avoid carrying large amounts of cash with you. Open a bank account as soon as you arrive in the UK.
- Carry credit cards and debit cards in a safe place.
- Always use a licensed taxi. Licensed taxis have an official plate attached to the back of the car.
- Insure your belongings - contact The British Insurance Brokers’ Association at www.biba.org.uk
- Lock outside doors even when you are at home.
- Ensure your house/flat has a smoke alarm.
- Do not walk on your own on the streets late at night and avoid using cash machines on your own late at night.
