Arriving in the UK

Guidance and support for new students

Living and studying in another country can seem a bit overwhelming at first but it's also an amazing, exciting experience and one which we are confident you will enjoy.

We aim to help you settle into life in Bedfordshire as easily as possible and provide a range of services and information to support you, including:

Meet and greet service

The University of Bedfordshire provides a 'meet and greet' service to welcome new international students arriving at London Heathrow Airport. This service must be pre-booked and a University representative will meet you at Arrivals and ensure that your onward journey to the University is problem-free.

Orientation and induction programme

We offer an orientation and induction programme to help you adjust to your new life at the University.

The five day Programme is designed to welcome and introduce new students to the University and the Bedfordshire area. It usually runs during the week before the official start date of your course.

There will be social events where you will have the opportunity to make new friends, meet University staff and to find your way around the University and town centre.

It is also essential for all new international students to attend international induction week, as they will need to register with the University doctor and with the police (if required). It is also the best time to open a bank account because representatives from a number of the national banks will be on hand to provide assistance and advice.

Typical events include
  • Tour of the town centre
  • Day trips to London and local areas
  • Talks on living and studying at the University of Bedfordshire
  • A freshers fair
  • Opportunity to meet staff from across the University

All students holding an offer of a place of study will be automatically sent more information on the programme before they start their course.

Registration week

Before the start of the academic year, there are a number of introductory events designed to give you more information about studying and student life.

A number of these events will take place in your academic department and will give you the chance to find out more about:

  • What is expected of you as a student
  • How to register with the University,
  • Payment of fees
  • How to select your classes for study
  • More information about the classes
  • Assignments and study for the coming year
