The Luton-based Pasque Charity provides specialist care for adults and children with life-limiting conditions
in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire & Milton Keynes. Like most hospices it relies heavily on charity-based funding, so in addition to the small number of permanent staff they have to recruit volunteers to help raise money for their much needed services to their communities.
Faced with the on-going challenge of raising sufficient funds each year Pasque realised they would need to ensure that their own fundraising team, some of whom were new to the organisation, were well trained in managing these tasks. It was at this point that they enlisted the help of the University of Bedfordshire for advice on how to best achieve this aim.
Following a meeting with the Marketing Manager and staff at Pasque it was agreed that the best way forward would be to provide some bespoke management training designed in a way that the course topics closely matched their training needs. The Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) qualifications were selected as the most appropriate qualification and the ILM Level 3 First Line Management Award was chosen as it provided a good grounding in tackling managerial problems and making decisions.
In the current economic climate the Pasque charity and other charitably funded organisations are finding it increasingly difficult to raise adequate funds. The Pasque staff who benefited from this training are increasing their efforts in looking for new ways to raise money so that the organisation can improve its service inline with the ever–increasing demands from its communities.
Hilary Corfan, Fundraising Volunteer & Administration Manager, said:
“As a new first line manager for the Pasque Charity, I really appreciated the opportunity to study for this award and gain basic knowledge of management tools such as problem-solving and appraisals. Having a tailor-made course where we could discuss work-based examples was very useful and enabled us to develop our management skills in a supportive learning environment.”
John Sentinella, Business Development Manager for the University’s Knowledge Hub said:
“The University works closely with a wide range of businesses and organisations to try and ensure that the training it provides fits exactly with the individual organisation’s needs. We understand the importance of flexibility for businesses, and the University has an excellent track record when it comes to creating bespoke in-company training as this example demonstrates.”
