CCTV, recording telephone conversations, ID cards and internet monitoring are all methods that have been employed to measure employee productivity in the workplace. The increase in workplace surveillance has had a number of effects on employees and managers, with many feeling they no longer manage in the traditional sense, but rely on a plethora of electronic measures to keep abreast of their staff efficiency.
At the forthcoming Knowledge Network event on 20th April, Dr Simon Reilly of the University of Bedfordshire will discuss his research, conducted across hundreds of small, medium and large companies, and ask whether workplace surveillance is intrinsically bad, or whether alternative methods of performance management achieve better results and a happier workforce.
In addition, guest speaker Jackie Webb from Pictons Solicitors, will show how to navigate the legal minefield of the UK’s hazy and ill-defined privacy laws in relation to e-surveillance. Click here to read more.
