Foundation Degrees

There are many factors to consider when developing or reviewing a foundation degree. The first point of reference should always be the QAA Foundation degree qualification benchmark (see link below) and the other relevant parts of the Academic Infrastructure. As work-integrated learning must be central to any foundation degree, the Code of practice Section 9: work-based and placement learning is especially important.

The guides below provide a basic set of links and checklists to other areas that need to be considered, including reference to Sector Skills Council frameworks and National Occupational Standards. As these areas often change, it is always recommended that the original website and documents are consulted. Other useful material on foundation degrees, employer engagement and workforce development can be obtained on the fdf website, particularly in the section for Providers. This is updated frequently but fdf will cease to operate from the summer of 2011.

As all foundation degrees should have work-integrated learning as a core component.
