Gain experience working within asylum and immigration law, and seize the opportunity to put theory into practice, and build relationships with real clients in your final year, by volunteering with the Refugee Legal Assistance Project.
Established in 2013, the Refugee Legal Assistance Project (RLAP) gives final year law students the opportunity to gain vital work experience working alongside legal practitioners, including a barrister specialising in asylum and immigration law and an adviser from the Bedford Refugee and Asylum Seeker Support (BRASS).
Through RLAP, you assist refugees with their applications for a family reunion, helping them to be reunited with their children and spouses who they had to leave behind when fleeing their countries of origin. The work provided by you is vital for our clients, as issues such as legal barriers imposed by domestic authorities and drastic cuts to legal aid have made such matters increasingly difficult for many refugees.
The [RLAP] is a serious and very helpful project, because it helped my family to be reunited again. I was feeling bad, so lonely without my family, I was crying every day. But, now I can laugh, no tears on my face, I found my happiness again.
