The University of Luton Pipe Band will try to maintain its excellent track record this summer, as it hits the road for some of the biggest competitions on the pipe band calendar.

In May, the Band will travel north to Dumbarton for the Scottish Championships, where they will come up against some of the finest pipers in the country.

June will see the European Competition in Banbridge, Northern Ireland, followed by the All Ireland Championship in Newcastle Co Down, where they did particularly well last year. The summer season will end when the Band once again heads back to Scotland for the World Competition in Glasgow.

Pipe Major Tony Doherty said: “After last year’s successes we know that we are up there with some of the best bands in the country. We have been practising hard and we are very pleased with our progress over the last few months. Being able to rehearse at the School of Media, Art and Design with its first-rate facilities has made a real difference to us. We hope to come back at the end of the summer clutching more than one trophy.”

Tony will also lead his Band at a number of minor competitions in England, including Colchester, Ashbourne and Corby.
