Applications to University of Luton Beat National Trend

Applications from students aiming to study at the University of Luton are up 10.2 per cent, well ahead of the national trend at 8.2 per cent.

The latest news comes from UCAS, the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service, which reports that some 486,915 students have applied to universities as at 30 June, compared with 450,147 at the same point in 2004.

University of Luton Registrar Dr Jim Franklin welcomed the news and said: “The University of Luton appears to be ahead of the national trend for applications for entry in September 2005. This is super news for the University – and for the town.”

Dr Franklin attirbuted the University’s results to its growing reputation for high-quality teaching both in the UK and abroad. He said: “Luton is establishing a name for itself as a University of opportunity. It has a super and diverse student and staff community, and provides excellent teaching and a lively environment for all who study here.”

Among the most popular subject areas both nationally and at the University of Luton are Art and Design, Nursing, Social Work, Sports Science, Journalism and Media Arts.
