To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Symphonia Academica, Bedfordshire’s professional orchestra resident at the University of Luton, will perform two concerts in March, featuring music from some of the world’s best-known composers.
Conducted by local man David Beaman, the first concert will take place at 8pm on Saturday 5 March at Luton Central Library in St George’s Square. The programme will include music by Italian Baroque composers such as Vivaldi, Corelli and Geminiani, as well as dancing by students from Luton Sixth Form College.
Peter Bussereau, leader of the orchestra said: “This is a very special anniversary for us and we will be playing some exciting and adventurous music for strings.
“Performing music of the baroque period alongside Schoenberg’s powerful and romantic tone poem Transfigured Night and Dag Wiren’s Serenade for Strings will be challenging, but will be a real treat for our audience.”
The second event will take place at 7.30pm on Saturday 19 March at the Rufus Centre in Flitwick – one of the final concerts of the Flitwick Arts Festival (5-19 March). The evening performance will include Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins, the Adagio by Barber and music by local composer Martin Ward from the film Fallen Angels.
Tickets cost from £4 per person with concessions and can be ordered by calling 01582 547418 for the Luton concert and 01525 631900 to order tickets for the concert in Flitwick.
