Teddy Bears' Picnic and Music at Putteridge Bury

Music fans are in for a real treat next month, when the University of Luton’s resident orchestra plays a live concert in the grounds of Putteridge Bury – and it’s set to be a great day out for all the family, with face painting, pass the parcel and a teddy bears’ picnic.

The 12-piece Symphonia Academica orchestra will play a selection of classical pieces, including Gershwin’s Lullaby, the Holberg Suite by Greig and two pieces by Italian composer, Mariano Mores.

Musical Director Peter Bussereau is looking forward to returning to this idyllic setting. He said: “Putteridge Bury is the perfect setting for a live summer performance and we love playing there at this time of year. There is so much space and the scenery is beautiful. It’s certain to be a great day out for all the family, and there will be plenty of activities to entertain children.”

The orchestra will also perform a piece by its Composer in Association, Richard Sisson, who has worked with local schoolchildren to put music to a poem by Luton poet, John Hegley. In addition, there will be a performance of Haydn’s Toy Symphony which features parts written for toy instruments, including a trumpet, triangle, drum and rattle.

The event gets under way at 3pm on 17 July 2005. Tickets cost £10 per person with free entry for children. To find out more and to book tickets contact Putteridge Bury Conference Centre on 01582 489069 or visit www.luton.ac.uk.
