The University of Luton gave a warm welcome to the latest cohort of international students at its annual welcome party at the Vauxhall Centre in Gypsy Lane.
Organised by the International Student Support team, the event attracted more than 300 students from numerous countries, including Africa, China, India and Vietnam.
On arrival, staff and students were greeted by Luton High School steel band, before enjoying a buffet with a selection of food from around the world.
Students chatted about their home countries with the Vice Chancellor, Profesor Les Ebdon, and to some of the special guests who included the Mayor of Luton, Haji Abid, Kelvin Hopkins MP and Lord McKenzie.
Professor Ebdon said: “This is a chance for the University to welcome students from around the world, and to celebrate our wonderfully diverse student community.

“More than 150 languages are spoken in the University and this adds to the experience of each and every student. Tonight I have met students from China, Eastern Europe and Africa, all of whom have very different stories to tell about their journeys to Luton.”
Tom Rouvray, Senior International Students Advisor, said: “The event has been a great success with dozens of countries represented. Some students wore their national costumes which really added to the occasion.
“The University strives to make sure all students feel welcome and settle in quickly so they can concentrate on achieving academic excellence.
“However, for international students it can be very daunting leaving home and travelling thousands of miles to start a new life. This party is a great way to help them feel welcome.”

The entertainment continued into the night with the Luton Samba Band followed by an international disco.
