Make Business Dreams a Reality with Free Lecture Series

31 Oct 2005 14:50:24

With hundreds of budding entrepreneurs benefiting from the Basics of Building a Business (B3) lectures last year, the University of Luton has announced its new line-up of lectures for autumn, with some new additions.

The award-winning lecture series is introducing new Dreammaker sessions which will give business-hopefuls the chance to meet the experts who can make their dream a business reality.

Karen Wood, Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Manager, believes the new sessions will be well-received. “The new Dreammaker sessions are for budding entrepreneurs seeking additional help and support for starting their own business, or for those who have just set up a business.

“They will get to meet and chat to successful business people who were once in their position. We have no doubt that such first-hand advice will go down very well with our delegates.”

The lectures explore the practicalities of starting a business including raising finance, writing a business plan, understanding customers, and the legal issues.

Presented by successful entrepreneurs, the lectures, including the new Dreammaker sessions, provide an invaluable insight into building a business, from people who are ‘doing it’ rather than just talking about it.

And this year’s series includes some new speakers and topics such as how social enterprises can work for public good - and tales from a serial entrepreneur.

Professor Alan Barrell, accomplished entrepreneur and Visiting Professor of Enterprise at the University, is leading the Dreammaker Sessions. This year’s contributors include:

• Charles Lovibond, from The Missing Link, an expert on networking.
• Tim Cook, Solicitor at Taylor Walton, who specialises in technology, intellectual property and data protection law.
• Gary Jesson, Managing Director of local firm e-Financial Management, and an experienced Chartered Accountant.

This year’s B3 lectures will be held every Thursday evening at 6pm until 1 December, and then again from 19 January to 9 March, at the Vicarage Street Campus, with learning materials and refreshments supplied.

The B3 series also culminates in a business competition in which the best business concept wins a cash prize of £1,000 and the best e-commerce related idea wins an additional £250. The competition this year is sponsored by e-financial Management.

The Dreammaker workshops will take place at the Park Square campus on Wednesday 7 December, and Wednesday 11 January, from 2pm – 6pm, and will cover more in-depth aspects such as developing ideas, preparing pitches, legalities and networking.

For further information on speakers and topics as well registration details, visit www.lutonnewbusiness.co.uk or call 0800 328 5334. Places on the Dreammaker sessions are limited, so those interested should book now.
