Dr Charles Hampden-Turner

One of the most famous names in the study of business culture and management, inspired more than 100 organisations at a recent University of Luton Knowledge Network evening.

Dr Charles Hampden-Turner spoke about how to deal with business dilemmas and learn from success and failures. The event provided a networking opportunity for predominantly small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), from all sectors.

Businessman Mukul Gandhi, of Tconsult Business Solutions attended the event. He was very impressed with the guru’s advice: “I learnt about new dimensions in business, made several contacts and received advice to solve a very specialised and pressing matter. I’m looking forward to future events which are really energising the local business community.”

Dr Hampden-Turner is a well-respected Senior Research Associate in International and Strategic Management at Cambridge University’s Judge Business School. He is also Director of Research and Development for the Trompenaars Hampden-Turner Group in Amsterdam, which specialises in cross-cultural consulting and training. Clients include Motorola, British Telecom, General Motors, British Airways, Unilever and Rockwell Automation.

He shared his knowledge and experiences and sparked a lively debate about innovation, leadership styles, organisational learning, coaching, mentoring and the perils of planning.

Knowledge Network Project Manager, Gary Kirby, said: “There is no doubt that there is a real demand for quality networking opportunities within the business community, and the Knowledge Network will continue to respond to these needs.

“Doug Richard, from BBC Two’s Dragons' Den, will be talking to the network on the 14 September, and we’ll undoubtedly have a full house for that event too.”
