Members of the public wishing to start up a new business can get sound business advice by tapping into the University of Luton’s in-depth knowledge bank at the Exploring Enterprise event at Dallow Learning Community Centre, on Thursday 22 June from 2-6pm.

Professionals and advisors from Business Link will be on hand to offer business support to budding entrepreneurs, and receive a tailored package via training, mentoring and practical assistance.

Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Manager, Karen Wood, is heading-up the project. She said: “We launched the programme in February in the neighbourhood renewal areas of Dallow and Biscot and we had a very good response.

“Now we are back again with the next open day and we hope that people will use this opportunity to get all the advice and support they need to get their business idea off the ground.”

Earlier this year, the University won funding from UK Business Incubation (UKBI) to provide a dedicated start-up business support programme. The funding was ear-marked by the Chancellor Gordon Brown in the last budget.

In addition to the event on 22 June, free weekly drop-in sessions will be held every Tuesday from 6 June at Bury Park Community Resource Centre, from 10.30am-12.30pm, and at Dallow Learning Community Centre from 2.30-4.30pm.

Additional workshops covering business plan preparation, market research and presentation skills will also be held at the Centres, and will be tailored to the needs of each individual.

Enterprise in the Community aims to assist 50 companies in their quest to begin or improve their enterprise. It will provide workshops, training, business development ideas, business needs assessments, networking opportunities, facilities hire and a tenancy option at the University’s own Luton and Dunstable Innovation Centre, as well as dedicated business advice.

The drop-in sessions and workshops are set to run until March 2008.
