The Symphonia Academica, Bedfordshire’s own professional orchestra which has been resident at the University of Luton since 1999, will be guest artists at the Diamond Jubilee Gala Concert for the Luton Music Club in Luton on 20 March.
The Symphonia Academica’s Artistic Director, Peter Bussereau, said: “For several years we
have been proud to perform one of our University of Luton Concert series as part of the Luton Music Club season. On this occasion, we are not only proud but also deeply honoured to have been invited to perform in this special gala concert to mark the diamond jubilee of one of this country’s most prestigious music clubs, the Luton Music Club.”
The programme showcases a galaxy of musical talent. As well as the Symphonia Academica, the concert includes Luton-born soprano, Christine Bunning, Luton-based pianist, Glen Inanga (with his piano duo partner Jenifer Micallef), Luton-educated Peter Bussereau and local artists David Beaman, Symphonia Academica’s Principal Conductor, and Richard Sisson, the orchestras composer-in-residence and one-half of the world famous cabaret duo “Kit and the Widow”. Also participating will be BBC Radio 3’s star presenter Petroc Trelawny.
The evening promises something for everyone, including the “Luton Variations” for piano duet, cabaret songs by Satie and Poulenc, Scottish Folk Songs arranged by Beethoven, some exotic French music arranged by Richard Sisson, the ever popular “Emperor Waltz” by Strauss, and Saint Saëns' musical tour of the animal kingdom, “ The Carnival of the Animals”.
The concert will be at 7.45pm on Monday 20 March, in the intimate setting of the Library Theatre. Tickets, which include a free glass of wine and a complementary souvenir programme, are available by phoning The Library Theatre Box Office on 01582 547474.
