A cyclone is heading for Luton’s hat Factory and is expected to cause shock waves across the town.
But Lutonians needn’t run for cover because the cyclone in question is a special exhibition by internationally-renowned artist Carl Rowe, who has been invited to recreate a ‘Cyclone’ in the hat Factory’s gallery space.
“Carl’s exhibition will certainly give people a sense of what it’s like to experience a cyclone,” said gallery curator and University of Luton lecturer, John Stephens.
“It’s great to have such an internationally renowned artist displaying his work here in Luton. Carl’s work is very hands-on and will encourage all ages to get involved and interact with the art to decipher its symbolism.”
The exhibition will feature four light boxes, each containing a super-imposed symbol depicting one of the ‘four winds’ from the popular tile game Mahjong. The floor has been designed to create the impression of fluttering lights and cyclonic movement.
Carl, who has displayed his work around the world, designed the exhibition during his time as an artist in residence in Japan.
The exhibition will run until 31 March. To find out more about the exhibition, contact John Stephens at the University of Luton on 01582 743185 or call the hat Factory on 01582 878100.
