Businesswomen from around the region have been learning how to ‘get themselves heard’ at a special copywriting workshop organised by the University of Luton’s Centre for Women’s Enterprise (CWE).
Twenty-three business owners attended the one-day Get Yourself Heard workshop designed to show small business owners how to plan and write their own marketing material to save time and money and boost their company’s profile.
During the day participants defined their services, target customers and key marketing messages, and received methods, tips, know-how and short cuts from professional copywriter and business owner, Mel Henson.
Head of the CWE, Dawn Jordan, said: “Good advertising with a well-focused message is extremely powerful and can make a huge difference to a business, yet owners of small businesses often do not have the finances to hire a professional copywriter. Thanks to support from the European Social Fund (ESF) we were able to bring them the experience and advice of a professional copywriter at a fraction of the price.”

The Centre for Women’s Enterprise runs free and reduced-fee workshops and networks for practicing businesswomen in the region as well as those looking to set up their own company. It also helps women to access the skills, support, inspiration and contacts needed to succeed in their work. The team at the Centre conducts research into women’s entrepreneurship.
