Students from around the world came together in music, song and dance at the Vauxhall Recreation Centre earlier this month for the University of Bedfordshire’s annual International Welcome Party.
Mayor of Luton, Cllr Julian Waites, joined the party to offer students an official civic welcome to the town, before Vice Chancellor, Professor Les Ebdon, thanked the students for coming to the Luton campus to study.

More than 250 students from dozens of countries including Nigera, China, Thailand, India, Portugal, Germany and Latvia came to the party and had the opportunity to meet Lord Mckenzie, members of the University’s Board of Governors and senior members of staff who attended the event.
Organised by Student Services, the sell-out event is the University’s official welcome party for International students, with many wearing traditional dress for the occasion.

Social Events Manager, June Wilson, said: “We enjoy welcoming new students to the University and giving them the opportunity to meet other students. For many, this will be one of their first social events in Luton and this is a great opportunity to welcome them to the town.”
Eastern Bloco Samba Band kicked off the after-dinner entertainment and it wasn’t long before hundreds of staff, students and guests were on the dance floor.
Entertainment also included a belly dancer, a steel band and a DJ who played music from around the world.

June added: “The International Welcome Party is one of the highlights of the University’s social calendar, and is known to be a very colourful event with many dressing up in traditional costumes on the night.
It was wonderful to see so many people from across the world coming together in Luton to celebrate the beginning of their student experience.”
