Slovakian business managers are well on their way to doing business with UK firms, thanks to a tailor-made course designed to help them improve their English language skills.
The University of Bedfordshire’s Knowledge Hub team has secured three contracts to deliver English as a Foreign Language programme for Slovakian gas metering firm, Premagas.
It’s a growing part of the Knowledge Hub’s business, said Hannah Rees, Account Director.
“The managers from Slovakia are progressing very well. This kind of partnership is helping to make the University an international training and business development provider.
“We secured the contract because of our ability to offer tailored training to Premagas who had specific requirements. They wanted to send managers over in small groups for short intensive sessions. We were able to be flexible to meet their requirements, as well as providing a meet and greet service at the airport and their accommodation.”
The training was not all classroom based. It included sightseeing tours of London, a ride on the London Eye and a shopping excursion in Luton!
Hannah explained: “We included a lot of role-play alongside classroom teaching which they really enjoyed. We specifically incorporated training which would allow Premagas employees to sample British culture, so we took them to London to see the sights.”
Premagas Business Manager, Sona Siposova said: “We have really enjoyed ourselves over the two weeks. The grounds at Putteridge Bury are beautiful. The staff have been really friendly and the teaching has been excellent.”
Another of the company’s managers, Radoslav Slavik, said: “I have found the training beneficial and I am more confident both speaking and writing English. The University took us to London to practice our social skills, and to learn about English history and culture."
The Knowledge Hub also offers a variety of free and subsidised courses for businesses in the region, and is currently working on commercial proposals to provide training to companies in China and Italy.
