Chinese delegates paid a special visit to the University of Bedfordshire last week to congratulate the Luton campus on its recent merger with DMU Bedford.
Ten members of the Liaoning Education Department (LED), which is a division of the Chinese Government responsible for all education affairs in the Liaoning province which oversees more than 75 universities, were invited to celebrate the launch of the new University and to strengthen relationships with China.
The party included Presidents and Vice Presidents of six universities in the Liaoning Province, which the University of Bedfordshire has forged strong links with, and Mr Zhou Haobo, Vice Director of the LED.
The University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the LED in 2000 and recently staff visited Shenyang to sign collaborative partnerships with five universities in the area to provide master’s degrees in computer science for undergraduates studying related subject areas in China. The master’s course will start in September.
University of Bedfordshire Vice Chancellor, Professor Les Ebdon, said: “We were very pleased to welcome the delegates from the Liaoning Education Department to celebrate the launch of the new University.
“We enjoy a close working relationship with many Chinese universities and we look forward to expanding our collaborations in the future.”
The University also discussed other possible partnership schemes with the delegates including links to connect the University of Bedfordshire with the Dalian Institute of Light Industry.
Dean of Creative Arts, Technologies and Sciences, Professor James Crabbe and Senior Lecturer, Dr Yong Yue, will be visiting Shenyang next month to present research seminars and visit the five partnership universities in the capital city of the province.
The Chinese delegates presented the University with a specially commissioned landscape drawing from the Liaoning region of China.
