Luton will be awash with students when they arrive for Freshers’ Week next Saturday (16 September) as an action-packed programme has been organised to welcome them to the town.
It will be the first Freshers’ Week the new University has celebrated since the University of Luton and DMU’s Bedford campus merged in August.
When they arrive new students will be met by Freshers’ Angels, who are specially trained volunteers to show students around and help them to get to know the local area, so they feel at home and supported in their new surroundings.
An entertainment programme has been organised including a Freshers’ Party at the Student Union on Sunday, a chance to see some of the best short films at Filmstock on Monday and throughout the week, various nights will introduce students to the many bars and clubs across Luton.

On Friday at the Freshers’ Fayre students will get a chance to join the wide range of clubs and societies the Students’ Union has to offer including sports clubs, religious, international, radio, drama, and creative writing societies.
They will also get the chance to talk to local businesses, banks, shops and charities to find out what services they offer students. They can also learn more about the support services the University provides.
Kelly Paul, President of the Students’ Union, said: “We make an extra special effort to ensure students’ first week at university is exciting, entertaining and packed full of opportunities to meet new people and to get to know the town where they will be spending the next three to four years of their lives.
“There is something for everyone in Luton and this is also reflected in the wide ranging clubs and societies we offer.”
It’s not too late to go to university this September. Those still considering the option can call the University of Bedfordshire’s clearing hotline on 0800 013 0925.
