Businesses in Milton Keynes are set to benefit from an extended cross-county business service from the newly-merged University of Bedfordshire.

The University’s award-winning Knowledge Hub will be strengthening its links with companies in Milton Keynes and North Bucks, offering business training programmes, start-up support, consultancy and business networking events. Its services have already been a huge hit in London, the Midlands and the North of England.

Heading up the new drive in Milton Keynes is Hannah Rees, Sales and Marketing Account Director for The Knowledge Hub. She said: “The Knowledge Hub has been providing services to businesses and entrepreneurs across the East of England for many years. We are committed to improving the quality, quantity and survival rates of start-up companies in the region and have established a number of initiatives to reach this goal.

“The merger between the University of Luton and De Montfort’s Bedford campus is allowing us to offer a much wider range of services with more expert trainers to deliver the needs of companies in Milton Keynes.

“We have also delivered language training in London, the Midlands and the North which have proven a huge hit with firms.

“Many of our projects are part or fully-funded so it means companies don’t have to pay large sums of money to access in-house expertise delivered by professors and associate business trainers.”

Services currently available include:

- Workshops covering a series of topics from Customer Relations Management and Presentation Skills to Employment Law and Accounting

- The M1 Knowledge Exchange project, which drives innovation, research and business competitiveness in the science, bioscience, manufacturing and technology sector

- Accredited courses with nationally recognised qualifications, delivered at the University or at the company's own site, addressing key business requirements

- Access to high-calibre graduates who can help businesses flourish with cutting-edge marketing and research skills

Companies can enter Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) with the University to benefit from student or graduate placement schemes or support and expertise of academics and researchers. This is an established and successful Government supported scheme, designed to give small and medium sized businesses from a range sectors access to university knowledge and expertise, to enable companies to grow.

On average, graduates will work for two years within a company as a KTP Associate and focus on a project of strategic importance. This might be to increase sales, develop new products or markets, enhance software development or streamline existing processes.
