Bedford will be awash with students when they arrive for Freshers’ Week next Saturday (23 September) as an-action packed programme has been organised to welcome them to the town.
It will be the first Freshers’ Week the new University has celebrated since DMU’s Bedford campus merged with the University of Luton in August.
When they arrive new students will be met by Freshers’ Angels, who are specially trained volunteers to show students around and help them to get to know the local area, so they feel at home and supported in their new surroundings.
An entertainment programme has been organised including a Freshers’ party at Oxygen nightclub on Monday and throughout the week various nights will introduce students to the many bars and clubs across Bedford.
Students will also get a chance to join the wide range of clubs and societies the Students’ Union has to offer including sports clubs, religious, international and performing arts societies.
On Friday at the University’s Freshers’ Fayre they will also get the chance to talk to local businesses, banks, shops and charities to find out what services they offer students. They can also learn more about the support services the University provides.
Kate Stanley, President of the Students’ Union at the Bedford campus, said: “We make an extra special effort to ensure students’ first week at university is exciting, entertaining and packed full of opportunities to meet new people and to get to know the town where they will be spending the next three to four years of their lives.”
It’s not too late to go to university this September. Those still considering the option can call the University of Bedfordshire’s clearing hotline on 0800 013 0925.
