Business network is a big hit with internet browsers

The success of one of Bedfordshire’s major networking forces has resulted in its members enjoying high rankings on some of the world’s biggest internet search engines.

The Knowledge Network, part of the University of Bedfordshire's business centre, offers hundreds of members the chance to network and share expertise.

Its website attracts thousands of visitors every week and members are reaping the rewards with search engines such as Google providing a valuable high visibility link to all it members – especially smaller organisations with a low web site search rankings.

Project Manager, Gary Kirby, explained: "The Knowledge Network's website gets a lot of visitors compared to other, similar networking organisations - around 4,000 hits a week.

"This is a real advantage for companies because, as part of their membership with the Knowledge Network, they can promote their business on our website and make themselves visible as a business.

"When you search for one of our member companies, one of the first results will be a link to the Knowledge Network which is currently ranking at number two on Google. This means they can be found much more quickly. It's great free publicity, particularly for smaller companies with low web site search rankings."

The Knowledge Network has been running for almost three years and boasts 450 member companies.

One member is Partha Dey, Managing Director of National Sameday, who said: " I joined the Knowledge Network when it was first set up at the University. It has grown into a major networking force in Bedfordshire. I have met various business contacts through the events and membership.

“One of the major benefits of membership was the web presence through the Knowledge Network site. This is a free service and helped the recognition of our business through internet web searching. Membership has also exposed me to other University staff and we were able to embark on a partnership, allowing students to work on some projects within my company."
