A new university league table published today (30 July) has placed the University of Bedfordshire 86th out of 113 higher education institutions.
The Good University Guide, sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers and published by Mayfield Consultants, the group formerly responsible for publishing The Times University Guide, places the University in 28th position for hospitality subjects including Sport, Tourism, Leisure and Recreation.
Bedfordshire’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Les Ebdon, said: “This is a good result as we approach our first anniversary as the University of Bedfordshire.
“A great deal has happened over the last 12 months including the £34m redevelopment programme at our Bedford campus and the start of a major investment programme at our Luton campus. All these improvements will have a huge impact on the learning environment and enhance our facilities enormously.”
The data used in the league table is based on several key areas including student satisfaction from the National Student Survey, Research Assessment Exercise, facilities spending, entry standards, the number of students achieving good honours degrees and graduate prospects.
Professor Ebdon said: “Although this is good new for us, it must be confusing for students and parents with an increasing number of league tables being published and ever-changing criteria which tends to use out-of-date information. Furthermore, certain key factors are not being considered, such as teaching quality. We are lobbying the Government for one league table that is consistent and takes into consideration fundamental aspects of the university experience, especially something as important as teaching.”
