Another league table leap for Bedfordshire

8 Aug 2007 11:14:09

The University of Bedfordshire has climbed six places in the latest teacher training league table published this week.

The Guardian newspaper’s official guide to universities providing teacher training, saw Bedfordshire rise to 30th out of the 73 institutions in the UK.

Vice Chancellor, Professor Les Ebdon, said: “This latest result continues our steady climb up league table rankings. We have an excellent reputation and a long history in teacher training. This league table reinforces our commitment to deliver a centre of excellence in teacher training in the region.”

The guide also highlighted the institution’s strength in media and sport subjects, where it was again ranked third in the country for media courses and 13th for sport.

Last week the University announced a new taster-day course, funded by the Training and Development Agency (TDA), to encourage more men into the teaching profession after a survey revealed only 16 per cent of all primary school teachers in England are male.
