A postgraduate course at the University of Bedfordshire has gone global allowing aspiring managers to meet and share ideas with their international counterparts.

Over the last few years, the Master of Business Administration (MBA) course has grown in popularity, and as well as running from Bedfordshire, is now being delivered in institutions around the world including in Oman, Poland, India and South Africa.

This includes a period of study in the UK for international students to interact with their contemporaries at the University of Bedfordshire.

Tim Priestman, Director of the MBA said: “Our MBA delivery has certainly grown over the last five years and we are preparing to open three more centres this year in Switzerland, Germany and Russia. We are now one of the largest Business Schools in the East of England and we have introduced what has been dubbed as a ‘flying faculty’ where our academics deliver MBA lectures around the world before coming back to Bedfordshire to teach here.

“The profile of those studying at MBA level is ever-changing. Participants come from a range of sectors and organisational backgrounds including manufacturing, retail and services; the commercial and public sectors; and from large, medium and small enterprises. More employers are expecting this level of qualification, and by embarking on a course of MBA study, employees are demonstrating commitment to building strategic skills in preparation for increased management responsibility.”

The course combines core business disciplines such as marketing, operations management and strategy, with innovative subject areas such as entrepreneurship and e-business management, which underpins career success in strategic management and leadership. They also learn how to apply models and theories in a critical and creative way to real-life business problems and gain an international perspective in all subject areas.

Managers can find out more about studying the professional qualification at a special Open Day on 13 September at the University’s Putteridge Bury Campus.

MBA Graduate Andrew Gillard, who is a Regional Sales Manager for a supplier to the automotive industry, will be on hand to talk about his experiences on the course. He said: "The MBA has been life-changing. I have learnt so much and my whole outlook on my professional life has changed completely. I can now see many more places within my organisation where I can add value and increase profitability.”

MBA graduates will be entitlement to membership of the UK Charted Management Institute (CMI). Apart from the additional qualification, CMI membership offers regular meetings with keynote speakers, networking opportunities and online access to a state-of-the-art management resource centre.

The Open Day gets under way at 6pm on Thursday 13 September, and will also be attended by academics who will be on hand to answer questions. Refreshments will be provided. For further information email mba-admin@beds.ac.uk
