The final cohort of journalists from Beijing studying Media Management at the University of Bedfordshire have waved goodbye to Luton, after successfully completing their one year intensive Master’s course.
More than 100 journalists and managers from radio, TV, web and print media have completed the course, which was designed specifically to train journalists for the 2008 Olympic Games.
Head of Media, Art and Design, Tony Eddison said: “The success of this programme highlights the University’s ability to carry out training for international events, and we look forward to providing similar training for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Our School is renowned for its industry-standard facilities and our courses have been ranked third in the country by the Guardian newspaper.”
The University was approached by the Beijing Municipal Government to deliver the programme because of its excellent reputation for teaching courses.
Li Haiqing, who studied on the Master’s programme said: “The course has been very informative and has provided me with a lot of ideas which I will be taking back to China. Many of the students who have completed the course were promoted when they returned to China.”
Course Leader, Professor Garry Whannel said: “It is sad to wave goodbye to our final cohort of media professionals. I know they will be great ambassadors for the University and will tell their colleagues and friends about the excellent education they received in Bedfordshire. I look forward to seeing many of them on the television during the Olympics.”
In November 2005, Professor Les Ebdon, Vice Chancellor of the University, was one of only 29 people from around the world who was selected as a ‘friend’ of the Olympic Games because of the university’s role in training journalists for the Olympic Games.
