The number of clearing offers at the University of Bedfordshire has risen by 22 per cent, compared with the same period last year – that’s six per cent above the national average for 2007.
Staff at the University’s Clearing Centre have confirmed that more students had applied through clearing since A-level results day on 16 August and there are still opportunities for people to find a place on a variety of courses at the University, although many have been filled.
Moira Hampson, Director of Student Recruitment and Admissions, said: “The rise in the number of students going through clearing at the University could be attributed to the fact many are now choosing to study closer to home, and so some change their minds when they realise the full implications of studying away from home.
“Another factor is UCAS has now placed all course and university information online, students can go through all of this before ringing universities, so they have done their research and know exactly which course they want before they get in touch.”
The University’s clearing team has been taking calls from prospective students from around the UK since the A-level results were published. Applications can be taken right up until the first day of term and offers can be made over the phone.
