Vauxhall graduation scheme attracts record numbers

Students from the University of Bedfordshire have been progressing in record numbers to Vauxhall Motor’s undergraduate placement scheme.

The number of students progressing to the next round of the selection process is in double figures for the first time following Vauxhall’s annual workshop to students from the University’s Business School.

Richard Hawes from Vauxhall said: “We are really impressed with the quality of the Bedfordshire students and their mature understanding which can give candidates the edge when seeking employment.

“Getting a job can be a really competitive process and we find that students who have taken a year's work placement as part of their course have lots to offer us from day one. We are pleased to run a placement programme of our own as we know what the benefits can be.”

The University’s Business School has recently invested £1.2m in new business pods, which reflect a modern working office. This has revolutionised the teaching in the faculty and allowed students to work with local companies on various business and marketing briefs.

Chanda Simbule, Business School Placements Service Officer, said: “The partnership with Vauxhall has been a great success this year. The introduction of the business pods earlier this year has allowed our students to gain a deeper insight into what companies are looking for when recruiting students and graduates for their placement schemes.”

Vauxhall and the University have been working in partnership for more than five years on the undergraduate training scheme, and the two organisations also collaborate on a graduate employment scheme.
