The Hat
Factory in Luton opened its doors to a fascinating world of visual art from China to
celebrate the Chinese New Year on Saturday 17 February.
The exhibition entitled Absolute China has been organised by lecturers at the University of Bedfordshire including Head of Media, Art and Design, Tony Eddison. He has invited students from the Zhuhai University in Beijing to exhibit more than 80 pieces at the Bute Street gallery.
Tony said: “The University of Bedfordshire has forged good links with the Zhuhai University and we wanted to give young Chinese artists the opportunity to exhibit their work in the UK.

“We’re really excited about the exhibition. It was good to see the people of Luton, as well as our Chinese students, joining us in celebrating the Chinese New Year.”
Head of Fine Art at the Chinese institution, Wong Shun Kit, also exhibited his work. He is a famous artist in China who runs a gallery in Hong Kong.
The exhibition runs until 26 February, to coincide with the Chinese New Year which started on 18 February. It’s the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays and 2007 celebrates the year of the boar, which is associated with fertility and virility.

Members of the
University’s Chinese Association also celebrated the Chinese New Year over the weekend with a programme of dance and singing, including a performance from professional
singer Wei Chen.
Admission is to the
exhibition is free. To find
