An evening of music and history is on the bill for the University of Bedfordshire’s Summer Concert on Friday 6 July.
The event at the Putteridge Bury campus, hosted by the University Choir, will include pieces from Rossini, Verdi, Sullivan and Dvorak performed by members of the University’s orchestra, Symphonia Academica, as well as a special appearance by the Luton Youth Chamber Choir.
Local historian, James Dyer, will give a short talk on the Edwardian house, followed by a tour of the principal rooms and picturesque gardens.
Choir Secretary Gillian Malins said: “This is set to be a wonderful evening in the beautiful surroundings of Putteridge Bury and the Choir is really looking forward to performing alongside Luton Youth Chamber Choir.
“The campus shares strong musical associations which many of its visitors have shared with us over the years. During the time when it was a teacher training college, Putteridge Bury hosted a variety of events presented by student teachers, choirs and musical societies. More recently, Symphonia Academica and the University Choir have given a number of performances in the house and grounds.”
The concert starts at 7.30 pm and tickets cost £12 (£6 with concessions). For further information contact 01582 495351. Putteridge Bury is located on the A505 on the outskirts of Luton.
Further afield, members of Symphonia’s Quartet Camerata, will be performing at St Paul’s Church in Bedford on Sunday 8 July, with Classical Delights - an evening of piano and strings.
The quartet will be joined by the virtuoso Chinese pianist Wing Yun Wu. On the musical menu will be Dvorak’s piano quintet, Wolf’s Italian Serenade and Debussy’s violin sonata. The concert gets underway at 8pm. Tickets cost £10 (£8 with concessions). For further details call 01234 269519.
