City Growth Luton launches new e-forum

A new e-forum has been launched by business initiative City Growth Luton (CGL) to enhance communication and networking opportunities for companies in and around Luton.

The website facility will keep local businesses better informed by providing an interactive online service which encourages companies to take a proactive role in both improving business opportunities in the area and enhancing their own prospects.

Chairman of the CGL Board John Page said: “The portal will play host to the majority of CGL’s cluster meetings. The agenda will be uploaded onto the site where members can participate in interactive discussions and contribute their ideas online at a time which is convenient to them, without attending a fixed-time meeting in person. Members will also have the opportunity to make suggestions for collaborative action.”

City Growth Luton was set up by the University of Bedfordshire's Knowledge Hub and East of England Development Agency (EEDA), as part of a Government initiative to involve the private sector in influencing strategy in growing businesses in regeneration areas.

CGL was set up to support local businesses and encourage them to have a say in the future of the local economy while networking with similar businesses. The project has been instrumental in the production of a business-led economic strategy for Luton by targeting three of the town’s key business sectors, the airport, information and communications technology (ICT), and aerospace.

Mr Page added: ”Despite the name, our work goes beyond Luton borders. CGL is currently working with organisations from Luton, Bedfordshire and even some parts of North Hertfordshire.”

CGL identifies sectors and clusters which are significant to the area, and aims to encourage key people from these sectors to pool ideas on practical actions that can be taken to remove barriers and grow local businesses. The overall aim is to improve employment and the prosperity of the area.
