The regional final of the National Youth Dance Festival (NYDF) will be held at the University of Bedfordshire Theatre next Saturday (16 February).
Bedfordshire Youth Dance Company and Kadam Mayuri Dancers from Queen’s Park will be among the 100 young dancers battling it out for the chance to perform at the prestigious national festival at London’s South Bank Centre, which runs from 5 - 13 July.
Those taking part will be judged on a variety of dance styles including contemporary, break and street dance, physical theatre and South Asian dance style ‘Odissi’. They will also take part in South Asian dance workshops being led by leading dance organisation Kadam.
Claire Somerville, Regional Youth Dance Coordinator for the East, said: “We are really pleased to be working with the University of Bedfordshire to present the biggest event yet. The East of England heat will be held for the first time outside Cambridge, at the impressive new theatre in Bedford.
“We had an unprecedented number of groups applying for a place and ten groups have been selected to perform at the University. Only three will be chosen to perform in London.”
The NYDF will see dance groups from across England participating in workshops and performances and they will also get the opportunity to visit dance events across London.
Performances from the East of England regional final are open to the public from 8pm at the University of Bedfordshire Theatre, in Polhill Avenue, Bedford. Tickets cost £5 and £3 for concessions. For bookings contact 01223 511511.
