A former marketing professional from Aylesbury has celebrated after assisting at the delivery of her first baby.
Lucy Ewers is studying a degree in Nursing at the University of Bedfordshire, and during a placement on a maternity ward last month she helped deliver her first baby.
She said: “After delivering my first child and visiting the mother and baby at home I knew had made the right choice. I’ve always had an interest in nursing, and after feeling unfulfilled working 9 till 5 at a computer, I snapped up the opportunity to retrain when I realised I could do it so close to home.”
The 26-year-old graduated with a degree in Marketing in 2004 and landed a top job just outside London, but soon realised that she didn’t receive the job satisfaction and wanted a change of focus.
She said: “Although I’ve only been on the course for six months I feel I have learnt so much. I’ve already delivered my first child, worked in a nursery and helped the elderly in a care home.
“I feel so happy with my decision to retrain. Working with people and not computers is a lot more satisfying. I feel like I’ve had a second chance to make the right career choice and I can see myself working in healthcare till I retire. I would encourage others who aren’t enjoying their careers to have a look out there to see what else is available.”
